Purvaja Sekar (Psychotherapy Intern)
Purvaja is a healthcare professional with over 6 years of experience in supporting children, youth and adults diagnosed with Autism, as well as their families. Purvaja is currently completing her Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University and is now expanding her expertise to a wider and more diverse population. Purvaja specializes in working with couples, individuals looking for professional and career development, life coaching, multicultural and minority clients, and parents with newly diagnosed children of any type of development disability.
Purvaja values honesty, vulnerability and compassion as she brings these values into each and every one of her sessions. She understands the complexity of each individual situation and takes the time to ensure that client’s needs and concerns are first heard and then addressed. Purvaja uses evidence-based practices to help her clients identify their root concerns, while working with them to a find a solution that works best for them.
Purvaja also emphasizes resiliency and growth in her sessions, encouraging and empowering her clients to push past and work through difficult experiences so that they are able to take full ownership of their journey and enjoy the benefits of their eventual end goal.
Outside of therapy, Purvaja enjoys spending quality time with her family, reading, going on long hikes, and engaging in cultural activities such as singing and dancing.
