Physiotherapy

Integra Health Centre has not only one but two state of the art clinics that are able to accommodate physiotherapy services – located in the PATH and the other in the Exchange Tower. Our registered physiotherapists undergo significant training and engage in extensive postgraduate courses to be able to provide the most comprehensive treatment plans possible. Most people have no idea what physiotherapy actually means or entails! The true definition is it is a holistic rehabilitation approach that aims to:

1) Address and improve a range of possible impairments (range of motion, pain, strength, and more)

2) Assess, improve, and perfect human movement and biomechanics.

3) Get people back doing the sports, activities, and hobbies they enjoy

COMMON CONDITIONS TREATED BY OUR PHYSIOTHERAPISTS:

Sprain and Strains

From Falls, trips and slips, sports and exercise related injuries and Gardening or Shoveling.

Concussions

From sports related impact injuries, to motor vehicle accidents, to walking into a pole on the street because you were texting, concussions and vestibular rehabilitation is commonly treated in physiotherapy.

Postural Pains or Syndromes

Office workers stuck in one position for 10+ hours a day who complain of neck and shoulder pain and stiffness. These are common conditions that can be addressed with exercise, ergonomics, and education by your physical therapist.

Back and Neck Pain

This can be anything, from “throwing your back out” while lifting something, to a nagging ache in your lower back, or shooting pain in your hips, toes, arms or fingers. Assessing and treating a variety of pains originating from your back and neck is the bread and butter of a physiotherapist.

WHAT MAKES OUR PHYSIOTHERAPISTS DIFFERENT?

Our Toronto Physiotherapists use multiple approaches to make sure their patients recover effectively and efficiently. These include but are not limited to – hands-on and tool assisted Manual therapy, Stretching and Mobility, Posture and Body mechanics and most importantly Education. Our King street physiotherapists are continuously learning and co-managing patients with not only our in-house family physicians but also the variety of healthcare practitioners we have at Integra such as our dietitians, chiropractors, naturopaths and more to provide an enhanced treatment plan. At Integra, our physiotherapists believe that ample time spent assessing our patients before building a structured treatment plan will lead to faster recovery and better outcomes. Hence, we have extended our diagnosis and treatment times to be longer than industry standards. Our fully functional gym is highly versatile and allows for our physiotherapists to ensure that our patients are executing their workouts in a safe manner to prevent injuries. Our new equipment will allow us to do a better job at helping our patients gain strength and functionality whether they’re at the beginning or end of their rehab.

Integra is conveniently located in the Financial District in downtown Toronto, a few steps away from King Station and Union Station. We are at the corners of Bay & King and King & York and are easily accessible through the Toronto PATH system. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. IS A DOCTOR’S REFERRAL NECESSARY?

No, you do not require a doctor’s referral to book an appointment with our physiotherapist. However, some extended insurance plans may require one to provide reimbursements. You can book an appointment with one of our in-house physicians to obtain a note if you do not have a family doctor.

2. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT MY FIRST VISIT?

Your physiotherapist will conduct a detailed assessment of your injury and will point out all of the areas in your body that are not moving optimally. After your assessment, your physiotherapist will determine the best treatment plan that will provide the fastest relief with long-term results. Your physiotherapist will explain everything as the sessions progresses so that you learn more about your condition, understand the assessment findings and feel safe and comfortable with the treatment techniques provided.

3. WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY APPOINTMENT?

Bring a pair of comfortable and loose fitting clothes. You can also bring a copy of imaging reports that may pertain to your injury.

4. HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of appointments depends on the condition and severity of the injury. Your physiotherapist will prescribe you with a treatment plan which will include the amount of follow up appointments they would advise on booking.
